Rumor has it

George Lucas based the (objectionably awful) Star Wars prequel location of Naboo on this icon of local bureaucracy. The real place is even more inspired than what showed up onscreen. It's a retrofuturistic time capsule that glamorizes civic toil with a post art-deco utopian veneer. The conceptual models displayed throughout the building are worth a tiny peek as well.

Can we normalize
this type of architecture?

The lines, the light, the liminality! It feels like a once-promised future in here. But our priorities changed a bit since 1957. Frank Lloyd Wright-heads must visit, not open on weekends unfortunately.
